Sworn & Certified Translation
A sworn translation (traducción jurada) is what a Spanish registrar, embassy, university or notary accepts in place of the original. It doesn't make your document true — it makes it legally readable, in a language it wasn't written in. Here's exactly how that works, and what it costs.

What actually makes a translation jurada.
Three separate things get confused as one. They aren't. Here's each, in order.
MAEC appointment
Your document is translated by a translator-interpreter appointed by Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, EU and Cooperation (MAEC) — the body that grants the legal authority to produce traducciones juradas. Anyone can translate a document; only a MAEC-appointed translator can make it jurada.
Signed & stamped, or eIDAS-signed
The finished translation carries the translator's signature and seal (firma y sello del traductor jurado) on paper, or an eIDAS-signed electronic PDF with equivalent legal standing. This is the step that gives the document force in front of a Spanish authority.
Apostille (separate, optional)
An apostille (apostilla de La Haya) legalises the origin of the original document itself — a different step, from a different office, concerning a different document. You only need one if the receiving authority specifically asks for it. We'll tell you plainly if yours does.

Frequently asked questions
A sworn translation is accepted by Spanish public bodies, courts, universities and notaries as a matter of law. If you're sending it abroad, acceptance depends on the receiving country — tell us the destination when you request your quote and we'll confirm what's needed.
A sworn translation makes the content legally readable in another language. An apostille legalises the origin of the original document — a separate, optional step from a different office. See the explainer above.
A clear scan or photo is enough for us to translate and quote. For a stamped hard copy, we'll confirm exactly what we need to reference against.
Urgent turnaround (24–48h) is available at +40% on the standard price, subject to translator availability — ask when you request your quote.
It depends on the receiving office. An eIDAS-signed PDF is legally equivalent to a paper original in most cases; some registrars and embassies still ask for a physical stamped copy. Tell us where it's going and we'll confirm which you need.
If the issue is a genuine error on our side, we correct and resend it at no charge. If the document itself changed or the requirement was different from what we were told, we'll quote the second version before starting it — never after.
ES↔EN is our base pair. ES↔FR/DE/IT/PT carries a 10% surcharge. Other pairs are quoted individually — ask via the quote form.
